Multi-Dimensional Auction Mechanisms for Crowdsourced Mobile Video Streaming
نویسندگان
چکیده
Crowdsourced mobile video streaming enables nearby mobile video users to aggregate network resources to improve their video streaming performances. However, users are often selfish and may not be willing to cooperate without proper incentives. Designing an incentive mechanism for such a scenario is challenging due to the users’ asynchronous downloading behaviors and their private valuations for multi-bitrate coded videos. In this work, we propose both single-object and multi-object multidimensional auction mechanisms, through which users sell the opportunities for downloading single and multiple video segments with multiple bitrates, respectively. Both auction mechanisms can achieves truthfulness (i.e, truthful private information revelation) and efficiency (i.e., social welfare maximization). Simulations with real traces show that crowdsourced mobile streaming facilitated by the auction mechanisms outperforms noncooperative streaming by 48.6% (on average) in terms of social welfare. To evaluate the real-world performance, we also construct a demo system for crowdsourced mobile streaming and implement our proposed auction mechanism. Experiments over the demo system further show that those users who provide resources to others and those users who receive helps can increase their welfares by 15.5% and 35.4% (on average) via cooperation, respectively.

Improving Crowdsourced Live Streaming with Aggregated Edge Networks
Recent years have witnessed a dramatic increase of user-generated video services. In such user-generated video services, crowdsourced live streaming (e.g., Periscope, Twitch) has significantly challenged today’s edge network infrastructure: today’s edge networks (e.g., 4G, Wi-Fi) have limited uplink capacity support, making high-bitrate live streaming over such links fundamentally impossible. I...
متن کاملA Comparative Study of Multi-Attribute Continuous Double Auction Mechanisms
Auctions have been as a competitive method of buying and selling valuable or rare items for a long time. Single-sided auctions in which participants negotiate on a single attribute (e.g. price) are very popular. Double auctions and negotiation on multiple attributes create more advantages compared to single-sided and single-attribute auctions. Nonetheless, this adds the complexity of the auctio...
متن کاملThe Feedback Based Mechanism for Video Streaming Over Multipath Ad Hoc Networks
Ad hoc networks are multi-hop wireless networks without a pre-installed infrastructure. Such networks are widely used in military applications and in emergency situations as they permit the establishment of a communication network at very short notice with a very low cost. Video is very sensitive for packet loss and wireless ad-hoc networks are error prone due to node mobility and weak links. H...
متن کاملExperimental Investigation of Audio and Video Quality in Multi - Video Streaming Environments
This work addresses the problems of sending live media, in the form of audio and video over heterogenous networks. Specifically we address streaming multiple video streams in a wireless network and streaming audio in a multi-video tele-immersive environment. In the wireless domain, we explore the use of a user level Bandwidth Manager as QoS control to aid the transfer of adaptive video. We impl...
متن کاملAuction-based Incentive Mechanisms for Dynamic Mobile Ad-Hoc Crowd Service
We investigate a type of emerging user-assisted mobile applications or services, referred to as Dynamic Mobile Adhoc Crowd Service (DMACS), such as collaborative streaming via smartphones or location privacy protection through a crowd of smartphone users. Such services are provided and consumed by users carrying smart mobile devices (e.g., smartphones) who are in close proximity of each other (...
